Introduction to Tiling - Level 1 Award
Awarding Body: City & Guilds (TBC)
Length of Course: 5 weeks
Course dates: 09/05/08 – 06/06/08 (Fridays)
Cost: £250 (Deposit: £62.50)
Maximum number of Students: 12
Previous experience required: None
Overview:
This course like the other introductory courses is designed to give you an insight into the world of tiling, the course covers the basic of elements of tiling including preparing a wall, tools and materials, measuring for a project, and tiling a wall to a simple design.
This course is excellent as an introduction to tiling and to increase your personal skills within the construction industry, or just to teach you enough to tile your own kitchen or bathroom at home.
Wall & Floor Tiling Level 2
Awarding Body: City & Guilds (TBC)
Length of course: 10 weeks
Course dates: 22/09/08 – 26/11/08 (Mon, Tues, & Wed)
Cost: £810 (Deposit: £202.50) - Payment plan available
Maximum number of Students: 9
Previous experience required: Some tiling or plastering knowledge would be required, must have knowledge of tool use and maintenance.
Overview:
This course is a good follow on from the Level 1 tiling course going into more depth on the methods of tiling and understanding drawings and patterns. The course will also include preparing a wall, repairing plasterwork as necessary, and tiling to more complex patterns. This course also covers floor tiling, incorporating preparing the surface ready for tiling, measuring and preparing for your project, tiling to a range of patterns and finishing.
Tiling Level 2 would be ideal for someone keen to pursue a career in decorating, tiling or simply to improve your home to a high standard at a much cheaper price than hiring a decorator to do it for you.
Flooring Level 2
Awarding Body: Not accredited – certification from Moseley Training Centre
Length of course: 5 weeks
Course Dates: 18/08/08 – 18/09/08 (Mon – Thur)
Cost: £530 Per person (Deposit: £132.50) - Payment plan available
Maximum number of students: 10
Previous experience required: Some knowledge of construction trades is essential, knowledge of using and maintaining tools is essential
Overview:
This course is specially designed to plug a gap in the education provision in the Midlands. The course will teach you how to cut and lay floorboards and joists to a high standard. After laying the floorboards you will then progress to laying a range of coverings including Parquet flooring, lino, carpet tiles, and vinyl flooring.
The final part of the course is fixing skirting boards to finish the project to a highly professional standard. The aim of the course is to teach you the essential elements of floor laying to give you a real edge in the construction labour market.

Vinyl Floor Laying
Awarding Body: Not accredited – certification from Moseley Training Centre
Length of course: 5 days total

Cost: £350 Per person (Deposit: £132.50)
This course is designed to fill a gap in training provision in the Midlands, teaching the various aspects of vinyl floor laying, including measuring, using adhesives, glue/hot welding, Scribing, Templating, laying techniques including Cap and cove fitting.
