Introduction to Roofing
Awarding Body: Not accredited – certification from Moseley Training Centre
Length of Course: 4 weeks
Course Dates: 18/08/08 – 18/09/08 (Mon – Thurs)
Cost: £500 (Deposit: £125) - Payment plan available
Maximum number of Students: 12
Previous experience required: None, however some knowledge of construction and tool handling/maintenance would be an advantage
Overview:
This is a simple course designed to teach you the basics of roofing. During the course you will learn the basics of constructing joists, tiling and slating and forming an apex. Also you will learn the basic elements of flat roofing and felting, including how to measure for a flat roof, and tarring/waterproofing.
By the end of the course you should have a reasonable level of knowledge of roofing, to give you the opportunity to work alongside a qualified & experienced roofing specialist. If you wish to continue learning more about roofing then please refer to the Intermediate award in roofing.
Either of our roofing courses will be a good starting point for a career in the roofing industry. These courses will act as a good routeway towards studying for NVQ qualifications.
Intermediate award in Roofing
Awarding Body: Not accredited – certification from Moseley Training Centre
Length of Course: 8 weeks
Course Dates: 22/09/08 – 27/11/08 (Mon – Thurs)
Cost: £1100 (Deposit: £275) Payment plan available
Maximum number of Students: 12
Previous experience required: Completion of the Introduction to roofing course or previous experience of roofing is essential for this course
Overview:
This course continues from the basics learnt in the introductory course. During this course you will learn a great deal more about roofing, including accurate measuring, understanding drawings, working out angles and pitches, constructing joists, fitting joists to brick work, slating and tiling, and guttering. Also included in the course will be an element of working at heights safety, scaffolding safety and cordoning off worksites.
While these elements will teach you how to conduct your work as a roofer to a safe standard, these modules are not accredited and form no liability where death or injury may occur as a result of poor health & safety management.
Successful completion of this course should give the student the skills necessary to pursue a career as a roof builder.
